  15. De-lurking to tell my personal experience--

  18. When I came back home from my first year away at the University of
  19. Missouri, I noticed the sweet smell of lilacs as I was unloading the car. 
  20. I didn't think too much about it at the time because there was a lilac
  21. bush near the driveway.  I had always liked the smell.  Later that
  22. evening, as I was watching TV, I smelled the lilacs again.  Only this time
  23. it got stronger and stronger until I felt light-headed and thought I might
  24. heave.  Then, suddenly, it was gone.  Completely.  No trace of the smell. 
  25. I started wondering if something weird was going on.  The next morning, I
  26. went out to look at the lilac bush and discovered, since it was the middle
  27. of May, that the flowers were gone and it was just a green leafy bush now.
  28.  I walked from room to room in the house, smelling everything that could
  29. possibly have been the source of the scent.  There was NOTHING in the
  30. whole house that could have been the source of the the smell.  I asked my
  31. mother if she had ever noticed the smell, and my cousin said, "Oh, so
  32. you've smelled it, too."  My mother then explained that to her the scent
  33. smelled like old, cheap perfume.  My cousin, a teen-aged girl said they
  34. first noticed the scent in February, long before the lilacs bloom, of
  35. course, and thought something was strange right away.  My mother sold the
  36. house that summer to move to a smaller place since I was the last son and
  37. had gone away to college.  We smelled the scent on and off all summer, and
  38. a friend of mine smelled it as well.  After my mother moved, she told me
  39. that she had known for years that at least three people had died in our
  40. house over the years--it had been a boarding house for a long stretch many
  41. years earlier. During that time, a young, unmarried woman had gotten
  42. pregnant and had a miscarriage when whe was pretty far along with the
  43. pregnancy. The miscarriage happened in the house, and the young woman died
  44. on the way to the hospital or shortly after arriving there.  The room she
  45. had rented had ALWAYS given me the creeps.  At one time, one of my older
  46. brothers had claimed the room, the biggest on the second floor.  One night
  47. he woke up because he heard the voice of a young woman giggling from a
  48. dark corner of the room. (I'm getting goose bumps just writing about it.) 
  49. He was so freaked out by it that he moved out of the house shortly after
  50. that.  Oh, and it wasn't just one giggle--she was laughing all night long.
  51. That's my story.  If anyone's interested, I have more.  I was born in a
  52. haunted house, and my family moved to the house I've been talking about
  53. when I was about five years old.  More later if there's interest, and I
  54. assure you, IT'S ALL TRUE.
